Najib: UMNO Destroyers will Attack the Head

Individuals and parties who want to destroy a political party will target the top leader, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today as he reiterated his belief of a conspiracy against him and Umno. Writing in his blog, Najib said a party could easily be destroyed if the members lost trust in their leader. "If people want to destroy the party, surely they will target the leader. If people lose trust towards the leader, the party will crumble any time," he said. Najib, who is also Umno president, is facing increasing pressure to resign over alleged financial scandals coupled with a weakening economy. He also stressed that in politics, to bring down a leader, there's bound to be "conspiracies" from both home and abroad to weaken Umno. "But we have to be clear that our country is peaceful and successful while being led by Umno. We should understand the current political situation clearly," he said. "All leaders face challenges and when one gets into the ring, one don't go out in the middle of a fight," he said. Najib also reiterated that he will not leave his post as prime minister and would continue in the post as long as he enjoys the support of the people. "We will fight all-out and I will shoulder my responsibility to the party and the people," he said. At the same time, Najib also thanked the people of his constituency, Pekan in Pahang, for putting their trust in him since the death of his father, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who is also Malaysia's second prime minister. Najib's comments came days after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad sent a strongly-worded reminder to Umno members to rethink their commitment towards Najib. The former prime minister, in his blog had warned that if members do not reject Najib, Umno may not recover in time for the next general election. The retired statesman has been relentlessly criticising 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and Najib, who is also finance minister and chairman of the company's advisory board. – September 13, 2015. - See more at:
