WE, the Chiefs’ Circle (The Circle) have been following events in the country and understand the issues faced by the government and the people. We are disturbed to note the extent of politicking that could affect the country’s peace and security.
The Circle comprises 30 retired chiefs of armed forces.
We understand the security implications to the nation if people take the law into their own hands.
We are a law-abiding people and have enjoyed peace and harmony since independence and it is our hope that this will continue.
The background of the members of the Circle makes us what we are.
We served the nation and government and have given the best of our military career.
The support and loyalty we gave to the government have not changed even though we are retired.
The reports by Bank Negara on Aug 13 provide us comfort and we, The Circle, believe it is the signal for all of us to move on.
The Circle supports the government, so let us give space to the leadership to address the issues.
We are confident that the government’s effort to ease the burden of the people will be successful, which is consistent with our belief that the world economic and financial situation will improve.
We acknowledge the role of the civil service.
We recognise their professional capability to keep the government machinery moving in tandem with the transformation programmes.
They have our full support.
Let us all safeguard the Rukun Negara. GENERAL (R) TAN SRI (DR) HASHIM MOHD ALI, CHAIRMAN, THE CHIEFS’ CIRCLE
