Rahman Dahlan Slams 'The Edge' for 'Excessive Speculation'

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25, 2015:

The Edge media group was slammed over its past reports revolving around 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“It is unbecoming for The Edge as a leading business newspaper to be involved in excessive speculation on 1MDB issue on a daily basis!

“The Edge has gone beyond the limit of professional conduct by heavily speculating on mere rumours on 1MDB and made them the front headlines,” Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan tweeted.

The Sabahan lawmaker had become the latest politician to take the business publication to task after Swiss national Xavier Andre Justo was arrested by Thai authorities for alleged extortion and blackmail activities.
In the days following the former PetroSaudi executive’s arrest, it had been revealed confidential documents had been stolen and tampered before being sold to unscrupulous individuals.

These tampered documents, according to UK-based cyber security firm PGI, were used by the Sarawak Report in their postings which cast aspersions on former Sarawak Chief Minister, 1MDB and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Abdul Rahman wondered why The Edge was “so obsessed” with 1MDB, especially with quoting the Sarawak Report.

“Am I missing something?” he tweeted, labelling the publication’s actions as “unscrupulous and unethical” in spreading rumours and speculations on the matter.

The Kota Belud Member of Parliament also hit out at The Star for their coverage of Justo’s arrest, saying given the relentless and incessant attacks on 1MDB, the least the English daily could do was to balance that with a headline on Justo today.

Yesterday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said media magnate Datuk Tong Kooi Ong of the Edge Media group should take responsibility for publishing incorrect news.
